Summary

Recovery doesn’t end when treatment does. Come be part of a team helping people build what comes next.

Road to Recovery is now hiring a temporary part-time 0.6 FTE Psychologist to join their Aftercare team. Working with clients who have completed treatment and are transitioning back into community, you’ll provide ongoing psychological assessment and counselling as part of a wraparound, recovery-oriented model that recognizes that recovery is rarely linear. You’ll work alongside an interdisciplinary team to help clients navigate the challenges that can come after treatment, strengthen the skills and supports that sustain recovery, and reconnect with care when setbacks or changing needs arise. This is an opportunity to build on a strong foundation created by the team's incumbent Psychologist while continuing to grow the psychological services offered through Aftercare, including individual and group programming.

This position is currently scheduled to end January 31st 2028, or the return of incumbent.

What is R2R?

The R2R initiative strives to better address treatment of substance use issues by providing the right support to each client at the right time. People who use substances deserve the same access to evidence-based care as anyone else, free from stigma. As with all of our services at PHC, R2R delivers care in a way that strives to be person-centred, trauma-informed and culturally safe. Launched in 2023, the R2R supports clients at every phase of their wellness and recovery journey by coordinating seamless care, even if there are setbacks or relapses along the way.

The R2R continuum of services in operation today includes 25 detox beds located at St. Paul's Hospital, 20 transitional care beds for clients awaiting space in a treatment program or long-term housing, and the Aftercare Team, which launched in Fall 2024, providing outreach aftercare in the community. The initiative is rolling out in steps, with additional treatment services to come soon, including a ~50 bed off-site treatment center.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide ongoing psychological assessment and counselling: Complete psychological assessments, develop individualized treatment approaches, and provide evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy to support clients as they transition from treatment into community living.
  • Support recovery in the community: Work with clients on the challenges that emerge post-treatment, helping strengthen coping strategies, mental health, relationships and other factors that support sustained recovery and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate care across the continuum: Collaborate with the Aftercare team and other health and community partners, participate in case planning and interdisciplinary meetings, and support continuity of care as clients navigate changing needs, including setbacks or relapse.
  • Help grow psychological services: Contribute to the ongoing development of Aftercare through group programming, program planning and evaluation, education, research, and improvements to psychological care and service delivery.
