Summary

Providence Health Care is embarking on an exciting journey to open the new St. Paul’s Hospital in 2027. Located on the Jim Pattison Medical Campus in Vancouver’s False Creek Flats, this state-of-the-art facility will provide integrated, compassionate care across a wide range of specialties while incorporating advanced technologies, sustainable design, and innovative infrastructure. As a Carpenter, you will play a key role in supporting the functionality, safety, and appearance of this world-class healthcare environment. Reporting to the Building Supervisor, you will perform skilled journeyman-level carpentry work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of structural elements, fixtures, fittings, and furniture throughout the facility. Your expertise will help ensure hospital spaces remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained, supporting exceptional care for patients, families, and staff.

What You Bring

Education and Experience:

  • Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Carpenter recognized by the Province of British Columbia.
  • Two years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day to Day:

  • Constructs, repairs, and maintains woodwork, furniture, fittings, doors, and hardware.
  • Installs and repairs structural and non-structural building components in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Performs minor roofing repairs, demolition activities, and general maintenance support.
  • Installs acoustic ceilings, gypsum ceiling systems, steel stud framing, and gypsum wall assemblies.
  • Reviews work requests and consults with departments to determine project requirements and specifications.
  • Interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete construction and renovation projects.
  • Estimates material and labour requirements and provides recommendations for project planning.
  • Coordinates project schedules and prepares required tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Provides task direction, training, and orientation to designated staff.
  • Maintains inventory records and recommends the purchase of supplies, tools, and equipment.
