Summary

**As Providence Health Care prepares for the opening of the New St. Paul's Hospital, some aspects of this position may evolve during the transition period. While the overall nature of the role is expected to remain substantially the same, operational requirements may result in adjustments to scheduling, FTE, unit assignment, site or other operational details.**

 

We have 2 Regular Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, Food Services Supervisor, Retail positions.

Rotation: Various (Days/Evenings)

Hours: Various (Between 0545 and 1930)
Worksites: St. Paul's and New St. Paul's Hospital

 

We have 1 Regular Part-Time, 0.95 FTE, Food Services Supervisor, Retail positions.

Rotation: Days/Evenings, Rotating

Hours: 0545-1345, 1130-1930

Worksites: St. Paul's and New St. Paul's Hospital

Within the context of a client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Retail Food Services or designate, the Food Services Supervisor, Retail, ensures that full-service cafeteria, coffee shop (if applicable) and catering services run smoothly for customer service, food quality, food safety, physical safety and merchandise excellence. Oversees the daily food service operations in assigned areas including supervising and training staff, staffing schedules, menu planning and ordering, inventory management, performing administrative record keeping for daily, weekly, and monthly periods, and performing daily cashouts and related financial entries. Approves timesheets and maintains accurate records on payroll system. Maintains food standards by participating in quality assurance activities and coordinates regular inventory counts. Ensures kitchen production for cafeteria items and catering orders are operating timely and effectively. Promotes and maintains excellent customer relations by resolving customer concerns and providing exceptional service. Maintains effective on-going communication with all levels of staff that fosters a respectful Food Services work environment. The Supervisor is accountable to ensuring daily operations are efficient and effective while maintaining quality standards.

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from a recognized two-year program in Food Service Supervision
  • One year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Food Safe Certificate 1.

Skills and Abilities:

Your Day to Day:

  • Supervise and support staff by scheduling, assigning work, evaluating performance, coordinating training and orientation, facilitating staff development, managing attendance, relief staffing, payroll submissions, and employee leave requests.

  • Oversee daily retail food service operations to ensure efficient service delivery, including staffing, customer service, food production, inventory control, equipment maintenance, and issue resolution.

  • Plan and manage menus, food production, and catering services by developing recipes and menus, monitoring food costs, overseeing meal preparation and service, and coordinating catering events from planning through completion.

     

  • Manage inventory, purchasing, and cost control by estimating food requirements, ordering and receiving supplies, resolving supplier discrepancies, maintaining stock levels and food rotations, conducting inventory counts, and monitoring expenditures.

     

  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, quality assurance, and workplace safety compliance through audits, inspections, corrective actions, adherence to HACCP, WHMIS, and safe work practices, and reporting hazards or incidents promptly.

     

  • Perform financial and administrative responsibilities including cash handling, daily cashouts, financial reconciliations, deposit preparation, record keeping, maintaining manuals and statistics, and participating in discrepancy investigations.

     

  • Promote excellent customer service and continuous improvement by independently resolving customer concerns, updating standards and procedures, participating in staff meetings, conducting satisfaction surveys, and assisting with special events and related follow-up activities.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
