Orders and maintains equipment and supplies for the Heart Centre such as wires, pacemakers, sheaths, balloons, and defibrillators by performing duties such as observing equipment and supplies on hand, and identifying supplies that require re-ordering. Retrieves and refers to the Hospital Purchasing Requisition Form to identify pre-established information such as item number, description, price, and purchase order number, and places order utilizing electronic purchasing system in accordance with pre-determined amount. Receives approval from Operations Leader on orders exceeding pre-determined amount as required.
Carries a communications device at all times and provides a timely acknowledgement of requests. Responds with an expected completion timeframe for the incoming request or explains if there is a need for the request to be re-directed.
Liaises with the Purchasing Department or the designated supervisor as necessary on issues related to the ordering of equipment and supplies for the Heart Centre, including problems, discrepancies and/or questions.
Receives and unpacks supplies and equipment from Stores, checks invoices to ensure information is correct, and forwards problems and/or discrepancies to Purchasing Department as required. Notifies Purchasing Department and designated supervisor of any damaged goods received, and enters information regarding damaged supplies and equipment into the electronic purchasing system as required.
Contacts other departments and/or hospitals as directed to obtain additional equipment and supplies as required to meet urgent equipment needs of the Heart Centre. Notifies Purchasing or designated supervisor of anomalies in ordering as required.
Stocks supplies in labs and/or carts by replenishing supplies, and orders supplies to maintain levels. Notifies designated supervisor in a timely manner if PAR levels are inadequate and/or critically low.
Tidies lab areas according to cleaning schedules by performing duties such as removing drapes from tables, placing instruments in applicable Sterile Supply Cart as appropriate, and cleaning cupboards and shelves.
Follows established safety procedures and communicates effectively with the sending and receiving nursing staff (or designates) in transporting patients as required to other units, diagnostic areas, or morgue. Assists with transfer of patients as directed and under the guidance of the patient care aide or nurse using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs or stretchers. Notifies designated leader of malfunctioning equipment.
Cleans lead aprons and equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, linen carts, medication carts, and suction equipment.
Runs errands as assigned by performing duties such as picking up/dropping off laboratory specimens and/or supplies, and picking up miscellaneous items as requested. Picks-up and drops-off stat orders from Pharmacy and Laboratory.
Picks up equipment from various areas within the hospital and delivers to appropriate location as assigned. Picks-up and delivers sterile equipment, and locates missing equipment such as wheelchairs, lakeside carts, stretchers, and IV poles. Advises the designated sending area upon pick up of the the item(s) and obtains acknowledgement from the receiving location that the items were received. Transports broken equipment for repair.
Picks up charts, discharge summaries, admission slips from Medical Records and Admitting. Performs clerical duties such as photocopying.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
