Summary

Join our team as a Maintenance Worker V, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our buildings and infrastructure. Reporting to the Leader, Plant Services (or designate), you’ll perform advanced trade duties—approaching the journeyman level—related to the installation, renovation, and maintenance of building systems.

 

This role is ideal for an experienced maintenance professional who thrives on hands-on work, problem-solving, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality in a complex environment.

What You Bring

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 10 education
  • Four years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
  • Ability to operate related equipment

Your Day to Day: 

  • Installs and modifies plumbing fixtures and systems (taps, sinks, toilets) by extending or altering water supply and waste lines and fitting pipes.
  • Performs electrical and mechanical repairs on equipment such as autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, and dryers by repairing or replacing drive units, motors, control valves, seals, bearings, and related components.
  • Constructs, installs, and repairs building components including shelves, cupboards, countertops, walls, doors, floors, ceilings, and windows using framing, drywall, wood paneling, wall protection, and floor and ceiling coverings.
  • Designs and builds custom furniture such as desks and tables to meet operational needs.
  • Completes plastering, painting, and finishing work using a variety of paints, plasters, and wall coverings.
  • Hangs and installs fixtures and accessories including bulletin boards, cupboards, bookshelves, pictures, towel dispensers, and soap dispensers.
  • Carries out minor renovations, roof repairs, and small-scale construction demolitions.
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains preventative maintenance programs for related equipment; recommends repairs and equipment purchases as required.
  • Supervises Maintenance Workers and designated staff by scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating performance, and identifying training and orientation needs.
  • Maintains building shops, storage areas, and grounds by tidying workspaces, cleaning equipment, and disposing of materials according to established guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
