Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Operations Leader or designate, cleans, decontaminates, assembles, wraps, sterilizes and distributes simple and complex medical devices, equipment and linen related to the Operating Room and other areas of the hospital and provides case cart system to the Operating Room. Performs related clerical duties.

What You Bring

Education:

  • Grade 12
  • Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing course
  • One year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Mathematical aptitude.

Your Day to Day:

  • Cleans and decontaminates medical devices, supplies and equipment used within the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Endoscopy Unit (at designated sites) and other designated areas of the hospital by following prescribed procedures using manual and mechanical techniques.
  • Checks, assembles, packages, sterilizes and distributes medical devices, supplies and equipment including procedure trays used by the OR and Clinical Units.
  • Picks and distributes instrument sets, supplies and equipment for operative procedures utilizing case cart system according to established procedures.
  • Maintains an effective OR request system by responding to urgent requests from the OR for additional items required during surgical procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties as required such as answering the phone and record keeping.
  • Maintains an orderly and safe work environment following departmental safety procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
