Education:

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant
• Current basic cardiac life support certification

Skills & Abilities:

• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills
• Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies
• Ability to prioritize and organize work
• Ability to teach and identify patient/resident learning needs

Your Day to Day

• Provide safe and respectful nursing care, adhering to the principles of the Home for Us model of care, individualized care plans, and priorities
• Encourages Household resident participation in activities of daily living, and activities of daily life according to the abilities, preferences, and routines of the resident.
• Identifies resident and their significant other(s)’s actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs. Encourages involvement of patient/resident and their significant other(s) in decisions that affect them, by respecting personal choices and providing information and opportunities to talk about their concerns.
• Administer medications per protocol, monitor effects, and maintain communication with the team
• Respond to incidents such as codes, injuries, spills, and alarms, following procedures
• Assist with staff and student preceptor orientation, demonstrating procedures and providing support to staff to model the Home for Us model of care
• Address patient/resident and family learning needs, provide educational materials, and make referrals
• Attend care planning meetings, provide input, and advocate for patients/residents
