Summary

Provides registration and health records support by processing patient admissions, discharges, and transfers; maintaining accurate patient information; completing, scanning, filing, and retrieving records; and supporting the release of patient information for continuity of care. Ensures records and registration processes are accurate, timely, and confidential while providing respectful service to patients, families, and staff.

What You Bring

Education

  • Grade 12 and two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day to Day:

  • Registers patients and processes pre-admissions, admissions, and discharges in electronic systems.
  • Collects and verifies patient demographic, personal, and payment information.
  • Processes registration forms, obtains signatures, and prepares patient identification bands.
  • Verifies or assigns Personal Health Numbers (PHNs) and updates patient information.
  • Processes payments, issues receipts, and handles patient valuables as required.
  • Maintains accurate patient records through scanning, indexing, filing, merging, and data correction.
  • Reviews records for completeness, tracks deficiencies, and follows up with physicians.
  • Retrieves, tracks, and delivers patient records while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Processes requests for patient information to support continuity of care.
  • Provides reception and clerical support, including answering inquiries, booking appointments, ordering supplies, and supporting departmental operations.
