The salary range for this position is CAD $39.47/Hr. - CAD $49.29/Hr.

Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Coding Information Systems and Projects, and working closely with the Coding Leadership Team and Coding team, Data Analysts, Information Management/Information Technology (IMIT) and external Vendors, the Coding Application Specialist is responsible for primary business application support of the assigned Coding computer application(s) such as Med2020 WinRecs,3M Codefinder and CAC (Computer Assisted Coding), 3M HDM, Meditech, CNN (Canadian Neonatal Network), Folio, Cerner and the BC Perinatal Database Registry, within a specific Lower Mainland Health Information Management (HIM) service area. Duties include overseeing system utilization for designated area, developing policies, procedures and standards for application use, and providing system support such as first-line troubleshooting, testing and documentation. Acts as a primary contact and liaison for HIM staff, system stakeholders and vendors to ensure systems meet business requirements, provides user support and training, report design/development and execute projects related to new programs, new initiative and system upgrades/changes.

For National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS):

Acts as a liaison with Coding Coordinators, HIM Managers, Ministry of Health (MOH) and other internal/external stakeholders regarding standards and procedures and serves as the primary contact with CIHI with respect to the implementation of new or revised coding standards and updates.

What You Bring

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Health Information Management Diploma or Bachelor Program.
  • Four (4) years’ recent, related experience as a Health Record Administrator in a multi-service facility, including a minimum one year of experience in data analysis, database management and coding, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) Certified. Education in computer science/programming and project management would be an asset.
  • Travel between HIM sites requires access to a vehicle and a valid BC Driver’s License.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize and troubleshoot computer software applications and report writer tools, such as Crystal Report, MS SQL Server Management Studio, the MS office suite, MS SharePoint, MS TEAM and remote applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to code in ICD-10-CA/CCI and abstract in the CIHI Discharge Abstract database, NACRS, PDR and other databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Case Mix Groups (CMGs), Comprehensive Ambulatory Classification System (CACS), Resource Intensity Weight (RIW) and Expected Length of Stay (ELOS).
  • Ability to understand computer terminology, which allows communicating and interacting effectively with project team, vendors and other system stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and teach staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop learning materials and tools.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work to deadlines under pressure, with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others, demonstrate leadership and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate related computer programs and equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day:

  • Manages and supports coding-related applications, ensuring system functionality, quality assurance, and end-user support across platforms such as 3M, Meditech, Cerner, CNN, Folio, CAC, and Perinatal Database Registry.

  • Acts as the primary business contact for application vendors, coordinating system enhancements, upgrades, and providing first-line troubleshooting and issue resolution.

  • Administers user access for applications, databases, SharePoint, and network systems, including access setup, auditing, and collaboration with IS on access-related issues.

  • Supports and maintains remote work and virtual desktop environments, including VM monitoring, application testing and updates, user access management, and troubleshooting in collaboration with VM teams.

  • Identifies, documents, escalates, and communicates system issues impacting functionality and operations.

  • Liaises between Coding Services, Informatics teams, IS, and vendors to support interfaces, integrations, dictionary builds, report design, and system optimization.

  • Develops, enhances, and maintains batch interfaces and supports data extraction, validation, and mapping in collaboration with HIM Business Optimization teams.

  • Collaborates with internal and external health authority partners to share expertise, align standards, and support current and future system implementations.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains system-related policies, procedures, manuals, and documentation.

  • Leads and executes system-related projects, including requirements gathering, infrastructure design, application configuration, report development, and RPA scripting.

  • Provides training and support to coding staff and external stakeholders, maintains HIM intranet/SharePoint sites, contributes to budget planning, and participates in committees and special initiatives.
