Your Day to Day:
- Leads coding standards and data quality initiatives, providing expert guidance to HIM Coders and staff on coding processes, patient record standards, and related practices.
- Develops, maintains, and delivers training programs and materials for new hires, practicum and co-op students, and returning staff to ensure consistent application of coding standards.
- Acts as the primary liaison with CIHI, BCRCP, BC Trauma Registry, and other databases, managing coding queries, implementing new or revised standards, and communicating updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Coding Coordinators, Leadership, HIM teams, and reporting/analytics units to ensure the accuracy and integrity of coded patient data and alignment with Ministry and CIHI requirements.
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and manuals related to coding standards and data quality, and oversees quality audit processes using evidence-based quality improvement methodologies.
- Supports recruitment and staff development by assisting in the creation of coding proficiency assessments, identifying data quality issues, and recommending targeted training initiatives.
- Works with cross-functional teams and participates in program development, ensuring codified data supports emerging healthcare delivery models; provides on-site support as needed and performs other related duties.
