The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. - CAD $41.35/Hr.

Under the guidance of the Resident Care Manager and in close collaboration with a diverse healthcare team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers top-notch nursing care to long-term care residents in addition to providing emotional comfort and support to residents and their families. Mount Saint Joseph Extended Care Unit is home to 60 residents in Vancouver, BC. Situated on the second floor of Mount Saint Joseph Hospital and in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood, its locality allows for easy access to acute and palliative services onsite. Care is culturally responsive to meet the cultural, care, and communication needs of all residents. 

What You Bring

Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant
  • Current basic cardiac life support certification

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Ability to teach and identify patient/resident learning needs

Your Day to Day

  • Provide safe and respectful nursing care, adhering to established policies, individualized care plans, and priorities
  • Conduct thorough assessments, monitor signs/symptoms, and communicate with the RN/RPN as needed
  • Prepare patients for procedures, transfers, and admissions, coordinating with the interdisciplinary team
  • Administer medications per protocol, monitor effects, and maintain communication with the team
  • Utilize evidence-based resources to stay updated on nursing practices
  • Respond to incidents such as codes, injuries, spills, and alarms, following procedures
  • Assist with staff orientation, demonstrating procedures and providing support
  • Address patient/resident and family learning needs, provide educational materials, and make referrals
  • Attend care planning meetings, provide input, and advocate for patients/residents
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and evaluate individualized care plans
  • Assist with discharge planning based on patient status and external supports
  • Operate and clean equipment, report malfunctions, and handle hazardous materials. Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, faxing, and maintaining records
