Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $54.16/Hr. - CAD $77.86/Hr.

Providence Health Care, this role promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors, and staff.

Reporting to the Director of Medical Technology Products, the Cloud Infrastructure Architect will primarily serve as Tier 2/3 support, providing advanced troubleshooting, monitoring, and system optimization to prevent downtime, mitigate risks, and improve performance. The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Architect (Tier 2/3 Support) is a key member of the Providence Healthcare Ventures (PHCV) Platform Development & Infrastructure team within PHVC. This role focuses on supporting and optimizing the cloud-based infrastructure for the Foundry BC Application, ensuring stability, security, and scalability.

The Foundry BC Application is a critical component of Foundry's services, offering free and confidential support for youth aged 12-24 and their caregivers across British Columbia. Through this app, users can access virtual services, register for groups, book appointments at local centers, and find resources to support their wellness journey.
Given the application's role in delivering essential health services, the Senior Cloud Infrastructure Architect (Tier 2/3 Support) position is pivotal in ensuring its reliability, scalability, and security. The architect's responsibilities will directly impact the app's performance and availability, thereby influencing the quality of care provided to youth across the province.

The team promotes the use of modern cloud computing practices to improve deployment efficiency, operational reliability, and service availability. The Cloud Infrastructure Architect will work closely with the Foundry business team, PHSA IMITS Technical Services, PHC Health Informatics teams, external vendors (e.g. Microsoft), and cross-functional internal teams to ensure seamless operations, troubleshooting, and enhancement of cloud services supporting the Foundry BC Application.

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•At least five (5) years of experience in cloud infrastructure support, including at least 3 years in a Tier 2/3 support capacity.
•Required Certifications: Microsoft Azure Solutions / Architecting Microsoft Azure and AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.

Technical Skills and Abilities:
•Expertise in Azure (knowledge in AWS is an advantage), with experience managing cloud environments, networking, security, and IAM policies.
•Proficiency in infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
•Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
•Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architectures.
•Solid background in Linux/Unix administration and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
•Strong experience in designing and implementing REST APIs with an emphasis on performance and scalability.
•Proficiency in database design and optimization, particularly in real-time transactional environments.
•Hands-on experience with React and integrating front-end frameworks with back-end systems.
•Solid understanding of both server-side and client-side development processes, enabling effective problem-solving across the entire stack.
•Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, ELK stack, Datadog).
•Proven ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues and implement sustainable solutions.
•Deep understanding of coding best practices and modern architectural patterns, including micro services and message-driven architectures.
•Proven ability to design and maintain system modules with a focus on cost-efficiency, performance, and scalable growth.
•Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate across teams and communicate technical concepts effectively.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-availability environment and participate in on-call rotations.

Your Day to Day: 

 

1.Cloud Infrastructure Support & Operations:
a.Serve as Tier 2/3 support for cloud infrastructure across the full technology stack, diagnosing and resolving technical issues to maintain application stability and performance.
b.Develop and implement best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident response for Foundry Application BC.
c.Perform root cause analysis of recurring issues and provide recommendations for system improvements.
d.Design and implement scalable, high-performance REST APIs, ensuring efficient data exchange and integration.
e.Optimize real-time transactional database systems for performance, reliability, and scalability, with a strong focus on tuning and query optimization.
f.Collaborate with front-end teams to ensure seamless integration and testing between back-end systems and React-based user interfaces.
g.Work across both server-side and client-side technologies to troubleshoot, enhance, and streamline end-to-end workflows.

2.Infrastructure Optimization & Security:
a.Ensure cloud solutions adhere to PHSA enterprise security standards, including network security, identity access management (IAM), and compliance policies.
b.Support performance tuning, scaling strategies, and high-availability configurations.
c.Collaborate with DevOps and security teams to maintain compliance with industry best practices and PHC standards.
d.Design new modules and maintain existing ones, prioritizing cost-efficiency with scalability in alignment with Foundry business requirements.

3.Cloud Infrastructure Design & Maintenance:
a.Assist in designing scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-based infrastructures in Microsoft Azure.
b.Perform ongoing maintenance, updates, and optimizations to support application performance and minimize downtime.
c.Manage Azure landing zone, performing administration tasks such as patching, backup, restoration, and remediation.

4.Automation & Continuous Improvement:
a.Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions to automate deployments using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
b.Optimize CI/CD pipelines to streamline development and deployment workflows.
c.Identify opportunities for automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual interventions.

5.Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
a.Work closely with application development teams, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure specialists to ensure seamless application delivery.
b.Engage with external vendors (e.g. Microsoft) and internal stakeholders to align infrastructure strategy with business needs.
c.Participate in on-call rotation to provide emergency support for critical issues.

6.Technical Leadership & Knowledge Sharing:
a.Act as a technical mentor for junior team members, providing guidance on best practices, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
b.Contribute to documentation of infrastructure architecture, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
c.Stay updated on emerging cloud technologies and assess their applicability to Foundry BC Application.
