Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for the Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at Providence Health Care!

As the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – PACU, you will have the unique opportunity to lead and shape clinical practices across diverse perioperative settings, advancing surgical care excellence and optimizing patient recovery. 

This dynamic role spans key areas of care, including Surgical Daycare, Operating Rooms (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) and Surgical High Acuity Unit (HAU) at St. Paul’s Hospital and Mount St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver  

In addition, you will play a pivotal role in the transition to the Anesthetic Care Unit at the New St. Paul’s Hospital, contributing to the development of best practices in both perioperative and post-operative care.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Clinical Leadership & Advanced Nursing Practice: Lead excellence in patient care by ensuring the implementation of best practices in post-operative recovery and patient safety. 
  • Mentorship & Education: Provide guidance, support, and professional development for nursing staff across multiple perioperative settings. Develop and implement education initiatives to enhance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes. 
  • Quality Improvement & Research: Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research projects aimed at optimizing PACU care and enhancing clinical practices. 
  • Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Care: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to promote coordinated, efficient, and compassionate care across the perioperative continuum. 
  • Clinical Expertise & Support: Act as a clinical resource to staff and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring the highest standards of care in all aspects of perioperative and post-operative patient management. 

What You Bring

  • Registered Nurse: Must be registered in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). 
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of nursing experience, with at least three years in PACU or Critical Care Nursing or related areas. 
  • Advanced Clinical Knowledge: Proven ability to assess, diagnose, and manage complex clinical issues in the PACU, with deep expertise in both perioperative and post-anesthesia care. 
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in mentoring, educating, and developing nursing staff. 
  • Research & Evidence-Based Practice: Experience in leading quality improvement initiatives and translating research into clinical practice to enhance patient care. 
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

Your Day-to-Day: 

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Lead the PACU team in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager and Physician Leaders. Foster a culture of continuous learning and clinical improvement. 
  • Education & Training: Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that enhance staff knowledge and ensure best practices in post-operative care. 
  • Quality Improvement & Research: Lead initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care and patient outcomes in the PACU, using evidence-based practices. 
  • Clinical Expertise: Provide expert consultation to staff and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring the highest standards of care in the PACU. 
  • Collaboration & Communication: Promote coordinated care and excellent communication between surgical, anesthesia, and nursing teams across perioperative settings.
