Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $47.31/Hr. - CAD $59.10/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Practice Consultant, Allied Health Education and receiving direction from the Professional Practice Leader, Speech Language Pathology, the Practice Educator, Speech Language Pathologists is responsible to

  • Provide clinical education, training, and mentorship across all PHC sites.
  • Plan, develop, and evaluate clinical education programs and learning resources.
  • Collaborate with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and SLP leaders to assess and refine competencies.
  • Identify skill gaps, determine learning needs, and co-create professional development plans.
  • Deliver individual and group education, mentorship, and clinical practice support.
  • Ensure safe, competent care for patients, residents, and families through continuous learning.
  • Utilize clinical experience, teaching, and coaching skills to support professional growth.
  • Contribute to professional, quality improvement, and clinical practice initiatives.

What You Bring

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology or a related field from a recognized University
  • Four (4) years of clinical experience, including two (2) years of recent mentorship, teaching, or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC. 
  • Certified Practice certificates E (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Voice & Swallowing for Adults), H(d) (Communication & Swallowing Assessment & Management for Tracheostomy- adults, with speaking valves), and I (Videofluoroscopic Assessment & Management of Adult Swallowing Disorders) are preferred.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Speech-Language and Audiology Canada is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to vehicle may be required.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally on a one-to-one basis and/or group setting.

• Ability to role model, guide, and support others in resolution of conflict issues.
• Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client/patient care.
• Demonstrated ability to lead change and support staff through transition.

• Demonstrated ability to operate a computerized client/patient care information system as well as applicable word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day: 

  • Deliver Clinical Education & Training – Use various teaching methods, including role modeling, coaching, mentoring, and facilitating group sessions to support learning.

  • Develop & Implement Education Programs – Design, develop, and evaluate clinical education programs, including orientation, mentorship, and continuing education for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs).

  • Provide Clinical Support & Mentorship – Act as a resource for SLP staff by demonstrating best practices, answering complex care questions, and supporting clinical decision-making.

  • Assess Learning Needs – Conduct individual and group learning needs assessments through observation, consultation, self-assessments, and clinical audits.

  • Evaluate Program Effectiveness – Measure education program outcomes for both patient care and learner development.

  • Support Professional Development – Work with SLPs and leaders to develop professional growth plans aligned with required competencies and practice standards.

  • Monitor & Provide Feedback on Clinical Practice – Observe staff, review documentation, and provide formal feedback to ensure adherence to clinical and professional standards.

  • Contribute to Performance Reviews – Provide input on clinical practice and staff performance, identifying areas for improvement and recommending professional development opportunities.

  • Collaborate on Education & Policy Development – Work with leaders and educators to ensure consistency in education programs and contribute to policy and practice updates.

  • Promote Evidence-Based Practice – Support the integration of research findings into clinical practice through education, policy updates, and reference material development.
