Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Summary

As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans 
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families 
  • Make referrals to resources as needed 
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals 
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values 

BCIT Perioperative Program (Dates are approximate and are set by BCIT):

  • Pre-requisite courses by distance *Online* (UNPAID): September 2nd to November 21st, 2025. 
  • 1-Week New Employee and General Nursing Orientation (PAID): December 1st to December 5th, 2025. 
  • Classroom/Clinical (PAID): January 5th to April 29th, 2026.
  • Located at BCIT and St. Paul's Hospital

Providence Health Care, in collaboration with BCIT, is offering fully-funded perioperative education for nurses who would like to work in the Operating Room (OR). Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at rate of 100% of posted FTE. Once you are done the perioperative education program, you will receive a certificate, and then begin to work in St. Paul's Hospital as a OR RN. 

Please note: Short-listed candidates will have to successfully complete an in-person dexterity test which evaluates fine-motor coordination. 

What You Bring

Education 

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). 
  • Minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience (preferred) 
  • Not eligible for those who have received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years. 
  • Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department. 

Skills and Abilities:  

  • Proficiency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures 
  • Teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration 
  • Interpersonal skills for effective interaction with others 
  • Conflict resolution skills

 Your Day to Day: 

  • Review patient/resident status using various methods: chart review, observation, interviews, questionnaires, collateral information, and consultation with healthcare team. 
  • Assess patient/resident problems and needs, plan, implement, evaluate, and prioritize nursing care and interventions based on clinical judgment and evidence-based practice. 
  • Provide nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, technology, and PHC standards. 
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, reassess as needed, and modify care plan accordingly. 
  • Record observations and communicate changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff.
