Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Summary

Within the context of a client and family centred model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Staff Nurse, assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice. Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the plan of care. Incorporates individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources. Supports other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures. The Staff Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the BCCNM Standards and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

What You Bring

Education and Expereince

  • Current Registration: Practicing as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Residential Care and Mental Health settings.
  • Experience: 2 years of recent, related experience working with youth and young adults in primary care and mental health/substance use settings.
  • HIV Testing Certification: Completion of the Point of Care HIV Testing course.
  • Immunization Certification: Successful completion of the BCCDC Immunization certificate.
  • STI Management Certification: CRNBC Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Management certification, or evidence of enrollment.

Your Day to Day 

  • Reviews patient/resident status through chart review, observation, interviews with patient/resident and family, questionnaires, collateral information, and consultation with healthcare team
  • Assesses patient/resident problems and needs, plans, implements, evaluates, and prioritizes nursing care and interventions using clinical judgment and evidence-based practice
  • Provides nursing care according to established policies, procedures, technology, and PHC standards
  • Monitors patient/resident progress, evaluates outcomes, reassesses goals if unmet, and modifies care plan based on evaluation
  • Records observations and reports changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff
  • Provides direct nursing interventions for crisis and life-threatening situations
  • Documents assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, progress, and discharge plans in a manual and/or computerized environment
  • Accompanies patients in medical transport vehicles as required by the employer
  • Identifies and responds to patient/resident and family learning needs, provides educational materials, incorporates teaching into care plans, and refers to other resources
  • Leads group patient/family sessions and coaches patients/residents/families to develop health-promoting behaviors
  • Provides direction to Care Attendants and Licensed Practical Nurses regarding patient care and fosters effective teamwork
  • Participates in nursing orientation, shares clinical knowledge, and attends in-service and educational programs
  • Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/resident care policies, procedures, education materials, and best practices
  • Supports nursing research by identifying areas for research, adapting research to practice, and participating in research activities
  • Facilitates discharge planning and liaises with families and community resource agencies
  • Advocates for patient/resident rights, including dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
