The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Summary

Mount St. Joseph Hospital is seeking dedicated and compassionate perioperative registered nurses to join our casual pool in the Ophthalmology Procedure Rooms! Our facility features three specialized procedure rooms, handling approximately 50 cases daily. Patients receive light sedation and are discharged the same day. The diverse range of procedures includes cataract surgeries, corneal transplants, and minor ophthalmic plastic surgeries. As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs. 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans. 
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families. 
  • Make referrals to resources as needed. 
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals. 
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values. 

What You Bring

Education:  

  • You must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a post graduate operating room course, or two years’ recent experience in an equivalent setting.

Skills and Abilities:  

  • Demonstrated competence in performing CPR procedures. 
  • Experience in teamwork, decision-making and conflict resolution 
  • Demonstrated a teaching aptitude 
  • Proficient in clinical leadership. 
  • A strong desire to expand your professional skills and a commitment to lifelong learning in the nursing field.

  • Variety of surgical services: In addition to ophthalmology and breast cancer surgeries, surgical services at MSJ include general surgery, dentistry, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and urology. 

Your Day to Day: 

  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers. 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs. 
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care. 
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results. 
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems. 
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary. 
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care. 
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures. 
  • Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
