Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Summary

As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans 
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families 
  • Make referrals to resources as needed 
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals 
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values 

BCIT Critical Care Program (Dates are approximate and are set by BCIT):

  • Pre-requisite by distance *Online* (NSCC 7120,7150, 7220 - 24 weeks): June 30th to December 14th, 2025
  • Pre-requisite release days (PAID): September 25th and October 22nd, 2025
  • Classroom/Clinical: January 5th to March 21st, 2026
  • Located at BCIT and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital

Providence Health Care, in collaboration with BCIT, is offering fully-funded critical care education for nurses who would like to work in the Post-Anaestetic Recovery Unit (PACU). Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at rate of 100% of posted FTE. Once you are done the critical care education program, you will receive a certificate, and then begin to work in Mount Saint Joseph Hospital as a PACU RN.

What You Bring

Education:  

  • You must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). 
  • If the applicant does not possess the required qualifications, PHC will fund Post-Basic Education. Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at rate of 100% of posted FTE. The length of the Post-Basic Education is approximate. Eligibility for Post-Basic Education is restricted to applicant(s) with a minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience (2 years preferred) and who have not received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years. Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.

  • Demonstrated competence in performing CPR procedures 
  • Experience in teamwork, decision-making and conflict resolution 
  • Demonstrated a teaching aptitude 
  • Proficient in clinical leadership

Your Day to Day: 

  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs 
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care 
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results 
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems 
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care 
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures 
  • Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team
