Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $42.56/Hr. - CAD $52.95/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Operations Lead, Virtual Care, receiving day-to-day supervision from the Clinical Coordinator, Foundry Virtual and receiving professional practice guidance from the Professional Practice Leader, Occupational Therapy, the Occupational Therapist 

  • Provide occupational therapy services through the Foundry Work & Education program to support clients in achieving independent living, education, and vocational goals.
  • Conduct assessments on clients' occupational performance using evidence-based Individualized Placement Support (IPS) for employment.
  • Develop and implement psychosocial rehabilitation interventions tailored to client needs and goals.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and services to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation in alignment with professional standards.
  • Participate in team and program meetings, contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with family members, program partners, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care.
  • Engage with educational resources and other healthcare professionals to support client success.
  • Demonstrate effective and safe use of resources, ensuring quality management in service delivery.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives to promote evidence-based practice.

What You Bring

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Baccalaureate in Occupational Therapy and two (2) years’ recent related experience working with youth and young adults facing mental health and substance use issues in a community setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC). Previous experience supporting youth with vocational goals considered an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy theory and practice within a client and family psychosocial rehabilitation centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of the COTBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Guidelines for Recovery Oriented Practice
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardised tests and measures, including vocational assessment/educational.
  • Knowledge of integrated placement support (IPS)
  • Broad knowledge of community resources, other health care disciplines, and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of psychiatric disorders and substance use
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective facilitation and consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, evaluate and modify rehabilitation programs/services, and to plan and deliver in-services to individuals
  • and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct functional and specialized OT assessments (employability and housing readiness and ability to live independently)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assesses clients' occupational performance issues and goals by conducting formal and informal assessments, reviewing records, and gathering relevant information.
  • Plans occupational therapy services in collaboration with clients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers, establishing expected outcomes and prioritizing goals.
  • Implements diverse intervention approaches to promote, develop, or restore occupational potential, including group leadership and support for vocational goals.
  • Provides education and counseling to clients, families, and community agencies regarding rehabilitation and functional issues in various life domains.
  • Evaluates occupational therapy services to ensure alignment with client goals, analyzing results to enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and community resources to resolve client care issues, integrate care, and coordinate services.
  • Supports youth employment initiatives by assessing needs, identifying opportunities, and coaching clients while educating employers about youth challenges.
  • Maintains client records by documenting assessments, progress, and treatment plans while compiling workload statistics for reporting.
  • Participates in team/program activities to enhance care delivery, promote evidence-based practices, and draft/revise operational guidelines.
  • Advocates and represents rehabilitation goals on committees and collaborates on interdisciplinary research to support client-focused outcomes.
