Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20/Hr. - CAD $63.47/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and working in collaboration with the Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing or designate:

  • Provide consultation and educational services for wound, ostomy, and continence care within the designated program.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and interdisciplinary team to develop and implement consistent care services.
  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate wound/ostomy/continence care education programs for staff.
  • Ensure evidence-based wound/ostomy/continence interventions are integrated into client care plans.
  • Build staff capacity and competence in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Collaborate with Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (NSWOC) across BC.
  • Travel locally between various PHC sites using a personal vehicle or shuttle service.

What You Bring

Education
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, plus two (2) years recent, related advanced wound/ ostomy/ continence care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Successful completion of the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Institute of Canada (NSWOCC) - Wound, Ostomy, Continence- Education Program (WOC-EP) or the Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse Certificate (WOCN).
Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to teach, coach, and provide clinical support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to identify learning needs and develop educational programs.
  • Ability to provide and/or develop resource materials, including educational materials.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of adult education principles.
  • Ability to lead a group.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centered model of care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to designated clinical area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work independently.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day: 

  • Provide consultation for complex wound/ostomy care by conducting exams, reviewing charts, and collaborating with healthcare professionals.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs in collaboration with the nursing leadership team.
  • Demonstrate and promote expertise in nursing practice through role modeling, case conferencing, and consulting on complex cases.
  • Deliver direct care to clients with wound/ostomy needs, performing advanced nursing skills.
  • Review and update policies, procedures, and reference materials, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Integrate research findings into clinical practice, policies, and educational materials.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives related to wound/ostomy care.
  • Engage in quality improvement and risk management by evaluating nursing practice and recommending changes.
  • Support nursing practices across PHC by developing and evaluating organization-wide educational programs.
  • Provide input on performance planning, space, equipment, and staffing requirements to nursing leadership.
