The salary range for this position is CAD $29.83/Hr. - CAD $29.83/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Operations Leader and receiving work direction from a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse, the Resident and Rehabilitation Care Attendant performs personal care duties for Residents or Rehabilitation Patients related to hygiene and grooming, eating, mobilization and other activities of daily living to enhance independence of Residents/Rehabilitation Patients, supports participation in daily life and ensures a safe environment. Work is based on the mission, vision and values of Providence Health Care and established guidelines.

This meaning is embodied by staff and residents of this 3-storey, 110 bed long term care home located in Burnaby. What You Bring

Education

  • Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day-to-Day 

  • Provides and/or assists with personal care and comfort for residents/rehabilitation patients such as bathing, dressing, skin care, mouth care, pericare, and hair care according to the established care plan.
  • Provides a safe and respectful environment for residents/rehabilitation patients by following safety instructions as established on the resident care plan that include activities such as toileting, transferring, bathing, feeding, positioning and ambulating. Assists residents/rehabilitation patients with meals and nourishments, in addition to serving, setting up and collecting meal trays.
  • Performs assigned nursing procedures such as taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, administering suppositories and enemas, collecting urine and stool specimens, and applying medicated creams.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by performing duties such as ensuring call bell is within reach of residents/rehabilitation patients, hallways are uncluttered and problems are reported to designated nursing staff.
  • Operates and/or cleans equipment related to resident's/rehabilitation patient's care such as bathtubs, scales, mechanical lifts, bedpans, special mattresses and personal care items such as glasses, hearing aides and dentures.
  • Maintains or strives to maintain involvement of the resident/rehabilitation patients and their significant other(s) in decisions that affect them through activities such as providing information, respecting personal choices, and providing opportunities to talk about their concerns.
  • Participates with residents/rehabilitation patients and families in leisure activities, accompanies residents/rehabilitation patients during social activities or appointments and provides assistance as required.
  • Supports continuity of resident/rehabilitation patient care by reporting related problems to designated nursing staff and by participating in in-services, meetings and unit activities as required.
