As a Staff Nurse at Providence Health, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families.
  • Make referrals to resources as needed.
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals.
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values.

What You Bring

Education:

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, or in Residential Care and Mental Health, as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Completion of a postgraduate high acuity nursing course.
  • Consideration given to candidates with one year's recent, related experience in an equivalent setting, Alternatively, consideration given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Organizational skills to manage work effectively.
  • Proficiency in operating related equipment.

We are the most research-intensive ICU in BC. If there is something new in ICU medicine, it’s being studied and introduced here – at the bedside, in our Research Challenge, on the floor. We follow best practice to ensure that while our treatment is always on the leading edge, we consistently deliver the highest quality of patient care. 

 

Across our organization and within the ICU, our world-renowned researchers continually push the boundaries of knowledge, keeping us at the forefront of care in the treatment and management of critically ill patients in areas such as sepsis (life-threatening infection), ventilation management, HIV/AIDS and also cardiac and pulmonary care.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
