The Heart Centre
The Heart Centre at St. Paul’s is BC’s only referral centre for the most complex cardiac cases and is a leader in cardiac obstetrics, heart rhythm services and heart valve procedures. In addition, St. Paul’s is the only hospital in BC to perform adult heart transplants and holds expertise in all forms of heart disease.
The Cardiac ICU (CICU): is a ward specialized for critically ill patients whose main concern is of a cardiac nature. CICU offers care of patients with heart attacks, unstable angina, cardiac dysrhythmia and various other cardiac conditions that require continuous monitoring and treatment. The Cardiac intensive care unit cares for ischemic heart disease patients as well as other severe heart disease. Furthermore, the patients in the CICU often have various complications such as respiratory failure and renal failure.

Your Day to Day:
- Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.
- Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.
- Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.
- Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.
- Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.
- Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.
- Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
